About me
Wayne Geis is an internationally recognized singer, actor, and teacher with more than 30 years of experience. A native of New York City, Wayne Geis began his career when he replaced Jon Voight as Rodolfo in the original Off-Broadway production of A View from the Bridge. Wayne Geis also played Freddy in Kicking the Castle Down at Gramercy Arts Theater in New York, working alongside Gale Sondergaard and Trish Van Devere. Wayne Geis performed with many renowned actors at this time, including Dustin Hoffman and Robert Duvall. While working consistently in the theater, Wayne Geis continued to hone his acting and singing skills, studying with coaches such as Curt Dempster, Ulu Grossbard, and John Mace. As Wayne Geis developed his singing voice, he began to appear in operas, including Madama Butterfly, La Boheme, and La Traviata. After a series of successful engagements in the United States, Wayne Geis, singing under the operatic name Erik Geisen, was invited to sing in Europe and found immediate success, earning the role of Anachoret in De Temporum Fine Comoedia at the 1973 Salzberg Festival. That performance led to additional European engagements, and Wayne Geis (performing as Erik Geisen) spent the next 15 years acting and singing in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Some of the roles performed by Erik Geisen in Europe include the title role as Prince Karl Franz in The Student Prince at the Heidelberg Summer Castle Festival and Tamino in The Magic Flute at the Saarbruecken Opera. In 1987, Wayne Geis re-established his roots in the United States and founded The Foundation for Vocal Realization in the Pacific Northwest, while he continued to perform. Some of the recent roles played by Wayne Geis include Don Jose in Carmen at the Bremerton Opera Company, Starbuck in The Rainmaker at the Starlit Water Music Festival, and King Henry IV in Becket at the Studio Theater. Wayne Geis is also a highly regarded coach and teacher, instructing classes and individuals in Tacoma, Portland, Seattle, and New York City.
