Lance Stelzer

A graduate of Syracuse University and the University of Florida Levin College of Law, Lance Stelzer serves as President of Miami’s Law Offices of Lance R. Stelzer, P.A., the civil and criminal trial practice he opened in 1981. Admitted to the bars of Florida and California, Lance Stelzer also holds admissions to appear before the United States Courts of Appeals in the Eleventh and Fifth Circuits and the United States District Court, Southern District of Florida. After earning his Juris Doctor, Lance Stelzer served as an Instructor of Law at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. Next, he accepted a position as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Florida. As such, he handled criminal appeals in federal and state courts, worked in consumer protection, and acted as Counsel for the State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators. Subsequently, Lance Stelzer became an Assistant State Attorney for Florida’s Eleventh Judicial Circuit. In this capacity, he held different positions at various times, including Acting Chief of all felony divisions, member of the Major Crimes Division, and Division Chief of two felony divisions. In other professional pursuits, Lance Stelzer has taught criminal law in Barry University’s paralegal program and legal research and writing at the University of Miami School of Law. An Administrative Hearing Examiner for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Board for 16 years, he has served on the Miami-Dade County Public Nuisance Abatement Unit since 1993, and as the Unit’s Vice Chairman since 1999. In addition, Lance Stelzer acts as a guest panelist, guest lecturer, mock trial team coach and competition judge, legal advisor, and expert witness. Lance Stelzer holds memberships in the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and the American Orchid Society. When not involved in professional or community projects, he enjoys cultivating award-winning orchids, landscaping, interacting with his son, and reading.
