With over 30 years of experience in treating adults, adolescents, children and families, Kathleen Salyer, Ph.D. has acquired considerable experience in a number of clinical areas. A majority of her current practice focuses on the treatment of anxiety, panic, depression, stressful life situations, as well as relationship and work related issues. Her considerable experience in inpatient settings with borderline personality disorders became a major impetus to her interest in the field and eventually to her lecturing extensively on the treatment of this disorder. She also lectures and writes on learning disorders and disorders of attention (ADD and ADHD). Kathleen Salyer, Ph.D. has published and given lectures on the use of Cognitive-Analytic Therapy. This approach, founded in London, England by Anthony Ryle, M.D. and his associates emphasizes the importance of early life relationships and experiences on the way we think and relate in the present. It recognizes the role of both cognition and emotions, integrating both cognitive and dynamic theoretical perspectives into its understanding and treatment of the individual. Kathleen Salyer was a co-presenter, along with Anthony Ryle, M.D., on this topic at a seminar hosted by the Clinical Psychology Department of the New York University and the Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration. Experienced in a variety of mental health settings, Kathleen Salyer holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from George Washington University. During her graduate training she was also a visiting lecturer in the undergraduate psychology program and an assistant in several graduate level courses. In more recent years she has supervised graduate level clinical students in psychological testing at the George Washington University's Professional Psychology Program.
