About me
Noted for her research and contributions to the field of neurosurgery, Board Certified Neurosurgeon Carrie Shulman, M.D. has delivered many lectures and presentations. A frequent presence at professional conferences throughout the United States, Carrie Shulman, M.D. has lectured and presented at meetings of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), and The National Medical Association, along with such teaching institutions as the University of Maryland, the University of Hawai’i, and Oregon Health & Sciences University. In addition, along with several colleagues, Carrie Shulman, M.D. published the case report “Eosinophilic meningitis after implantation of a rifampin and minocycline-impregna<wbr/>ted<wbr/> ventriculostomy catheter in a child” in a 2006 edition of the Journal of Neurosurgery. As the recipient of several honors for her work in neurosurgery, Carrie Shulman, M.D. obtained a U.S. Army Commendation Medal for Exceptionally Meritorious Service, an Army Commendation Medal for Excellent Neurosurgical Skills and Leadership, a Meritorious Service Medal for Excellent Performance as Chief Resident from the National Capital Consortium, and various scholarships and awards in medical school.<wbr/><br/><wbr/><br/>CarrieShulman,<wbr/>M.D. graduated from Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service with a Bachelor of Science in Science, Technology and International Affairs before shifting her professional focus to medicine four years later. Enrolling at the Howard University College of Medicine in 1994, Carrie Shulman, M.D. immediately distinguished herself as a standout in her class, with demonstrated proficiency in the area of neurosurgery. Carrie Shulman, M.D. subsequently completed an internship and residency in neurosurgery at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Carrie Shulman, M.D. is the first and only women to graduate from the program. She also is the only female neurosurgeon in the history of the military to be trained by the Army.
