Veteran psychiatrist Dr. Allen Collins sees patients in his private practice in New York City and has spent nearly four decades working as both a clinician and a university faculty member. Having completed his pre-medical education in 1964 at Columbia College in New York City, Dr. Allen Collins began his medical training at the Tufts University School of Medicine of Boston, Massachusetts, where he graduated in 1968 with a Doctor of Medicine degree. Following the receipt of his medical degree, Dr. Allen Collins began a mixed medical internship at the United States Public Health Services Hospital in Boston in 1968. In 1969, he entered Columbia University’s Graduate School of Public Health Division of Social and Community Psychiatry’s graduate studies program in public health, in conjunction with his furtjer post-graduate clinical training at Columbia University, Dr. Allen Collins received his adult psychiatric residency training at the Columbia University Medical Center’s New York State Psychiatric Institute in New York City, which he completed in 1972. Dr. Allen Collins pursued additional training in family and couples therapy at the Roosevelt Hospital Center during his senior year at Columbia University Medical Center, and, after finishing at Columbia, he completed his training in psychoanalysis in 1980 at the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis & Psychology, from which he received a Certificate in Psychoanalysis, Dr. Allen Collins was appointed an Assistant Examiner in Psychiatry for the Part II (Oral) Exams of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 1979, and after conducting more than 60 oral examination, was appointed senior examiner in 1995., In 1981, Dr. Allen Collins was appointed the Associate Editor of Contemporary Psychoanalysis, a medical journal he served until 1986.
