Adele Sammarco’s journalistic career began in the late 1980s after graduating from New York University, when she joined WWOR-TV Channel 9 News in Secaucus, New Jersey. While at Channel 9, Adele Sammarco field-produced the John Gotti, Sr. trial and the Crown Heights Riots as well as the Reverend Al Sharpton protest marches against police brutality throughout New York City. In 1992, Adele joined the new Time Warner-owned, 24-hour cable news station, NY1 (New York 1) as an original television news Reporter. Adele Sammarco is widely known for her thorough, in-depth and incisive coverage of news events in New York and its surrounding boroughs. Adele Sammarco covered a wide range of topics and filed thousands of reports in her near-decade tenure with NY1. She was first on the scene for the massive flooding that devastated Sea Gate, Brooklyn in 1992 during the Great Nor'easter, providing the five boroughs with continuous live updates on the situation. The New York Times cited Adele's coverage stating, "When the first gusts began whipping through the area early Friday morning, the station switched to almost continuous coverage of the storm. By 8 a.m., Adele Sammarco was in Sea Gate, Brooklyn, broadcasting live interviews with residents who faced torrential flooding. Conduit for Information."
