In 2005, the American Civil Liberties Union granted Shereef Akeel the Defender of Freedom Award, and the Center for Constitutional Rights gave Shereef Akeel the President's Award in 2006. Later that year, Shereef Akeel also received the Guardian of Civil Rights Award from the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.
