Director, choreographer, musician, performer, and teacher, Paul Stancato has received many titles over the course of his varied career. Having recently concluded his commitment to Disney’s The Lion King, Paul Stancato is currently preparing to work on a new piece based on the life of Jean Michele Basquiat, an American artist of African descent, known for his neo-expressionist paintings.<wbr/><br/><wbr/><br/>Holding<wbr/>a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Dance from Western Illinois University, Paul Stancato also received a Master of Fine Arts in theatre from the University of Florida. Before delving into theatre after completing school, Paul Stancato lived in Chicago for several years playing drums in Voodoo Buss, a Chicago rock band. Along with band mates Chris Blisset and Matt Uremovich, Paul Stancato experimented with multimedia project, ROCKSHOW. In 1996, Paul Stancato co-founded the theatre company, Aporia Players, serving as Artistic Director until 2003. Under the artistic vision and leadership of Paul Stancato, Aporia Players received critical acclaim.<wbr/><br/><wbr/><br/>Paul<wbr/>Stancato has collaborated with theatre masters, including Julie Taymor, John Rando, and Rob Ashford. His directing and choreographing credits include Crazy For You, Godspell, Guys and Dolls, Zombies from the Beyond, Rockshow and Heart Rising, and Einstein’s Dreams, for which he received the Best Direction award from the New York Fringe Festival.<wbr/><br/><wbr/><br/>Paul<wbr/>Stancato is a member of the Director’s Lab at Lincoln Center, the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, the Actors’ Equity Association, and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).
