Leveraging years of tennis experience as a high-level player, coach, and teacher, Norm Burgos has been the Executive Director of the Burgos Tennis Foundation since 1998. The Burgos Tennis Foundation, which Norm Burgos manages himself, focuses on providing free or very low-cost tennis training to inner-city youths, implementing fitness programs for schools and companies, and organizing local and international tennis clinics. As the head of the organization, Norm Burgos has personally developed all of the training programs for the foundation and has served as a mentor to hundreds of aspiring young tennis players. In addition to being the Executive Director of the Burgos Tennis Foundation, Norm Burgos was recently employed as the physical education teacher and tennis coach for Tamalpais High School in Northern California. In his position, Norm Burgos was responsible for developing curriculum on a variety of health related subjects, including exercise, nutrition, and weight control. Well liked by both students and the administration, Norm Burgos was a 2006 recipient of the Elizabeth Terwilliger Award for Excellence in Teaching. Similarly admired as a coach, Norm Burgos also received Coach of the Year awards in 1991 and 1995. Prior to beginning his career in physical education and coaching, Norm Burgos earned his B.A. from Pepperdine University. Graduating with a degree in the dual fields of Communications and Sports Medicine, Norm Burgos received exceptional grades as an undergrad and was a member of the university’s tennis team. Before enrolling at Pepperdine, Norm Burgos attended Moorpark College for two years, where he studied Athletic Training and Sports Management and played tennis. In addition to his B.A., Norm Burgos also earned a B.S. in Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology and a M.A. in Education from San Francisco State University. Norm Burgos received his teaching certification from San Francisco State University as well.
