Possessing a dedication to his community, Jim Springfield contributes his time to many organizations. At present, Jim Springfield is a member of the Personnel Committee for the First Baptist Church of Harlingen. Additionally, Jim Springfield serves on the Futures Commission for the University of Texas at Brownsville. After participating in the Harlingen Area Chamber of Commerce, Jim Springfield earned an appointment to the Legislative Committee, where he currently helps promote the best interests of area businesses. Jim Springfield has served on the Board of Directors of many organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America and Rio Grande Council, as well as the Valley International Airport, the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation, and the Rio Grande Valley Partnership. Working on the government level to help improve and maintain community services, Jim Springfield has held multiple roles in Texas government, including a three-year term on the Department of State Health Services Council, as well as on the Interim Committee on Binational Health Plans. In recognition of his outstanding work, Jim Springfield received the distinguished Robert S. Hudgens Memorial Award for Young Healthcare Executive of the Year from the American College of Healthcare Executives in 2004. Jim Springfield has been selected as a recipient of the Hudgens Award from the alumni association of the Department of Health Administration at Virginia Commonwealth University. Jim Springfield earned recognition for introducing the Six Sigma quality improvement initiative into the Valley Baptist Health System in Harlingen, Texas. Moreover, Jim Springfield’s tenure as President and Chief Executive Officer of Valley Baptist Health System resulted in a 100% increase in system revenue, as well as a 300% increase in health plan enrollment.
