About me

A committed attorney with nearly two decades of professional legal experience, Mr. Gary Merenstein currently works out of his private practice in Boulder, Colorado. Known for his work on the Colorado case of Flood v. Mercantile Adjustment Bureau case, which case established Colorado legal precedent regarding the “least sophisticated consumer” standard under which collection notices sent to consumers are reviewed under and which also established legal precedent in regard to the degree of clarity that debt collectors must adhere to when providing the consumer’s affirmative disclosures under the Colorado Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Mr. Merenstein continues to enforce these legal requirements on behalf of his clients who act as private attorney generals in seeking compliance of the Act. Gary Merenstein’s time spent in the courtroom has led him to take on a variety of cases throughout his professional career. To date, Gary Merenstein has tackled issues involving mental health, conservatorship, real estate, contracts, guardianships, consumer protection, and tax law, one of his main areas of practice. Gary Merenstein stays active in the legal community through his memberships in the Boulder County Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association, the National Legal Aid & Defender Association, and the National Association of Consumer Advocates, in addition to various groups protecting the rights of the mentally ill, the elderly, and taxpayers. The possessor of three academic degrees, Gary Merenstein holds a Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, a Juris Doctor (JD) from the Stetson University College of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in American Studies from the University of Colorado. An involved student, Gary Merenstein participated in activities such as the Community Judicial Board and Law Review throughout his time spent in both college and law school.
