Mauna Kea Galleries was founded by Carolyn Blackburn in 1995. Her husband, Mark Blackburn is a noted author who has published works that include Surf's Up, Hawaiiana: The Best of Hawaiiana Design, Hula Girls and Surfer Boys, and Tattoos from Paradise. Mark Blackburn is also a senior certified appraiser who is available to perform appraisals by appointment. In his 30 years in the field of appraising, Mark Blackburn has assisted private citizens and renowned institutions, such as New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and Honolulu’s own Mission Houses and Bishop Museums.
