Based in Honolulu, Hawaii, Mauna Kea Galleries is home to some of the finest artwork of Hawaiian and Polynesian subject matter. Mauna Kea Galleries’ collection of vintage Hawaiian paintings and Polynesian objects is one of the largest in the world, encompassing a wide selection of island cultural artifacts, paintings, rare books, and vintage collectables. Mauna Kea Galleries was founded by Carolyn Blackburn in 1995. Her husband, Mark Blackburn is a noted author who has published works that include Surf's Up, Hawaiiana: The Best of Hawaiiana Design, Hula Girls and Surfer Boys, and Tattoos from Paradise. Mark Blackburn is also a senior certified appraiser who is available to perform appraisals by appointment. In his 30 years in the field of appraising, Mark Blackburn has assisted private citizens and renowned institutions, such as New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and Honolulu’s own Mission Houses and Bishop Museums.
